‘NO GLOVES’ ART
When I was creating a name for my art business, I struggled to find a moniker that captured who I am as an artist and what my work represents. I wanted my business to convey certain qualities - namely fine art that was refined yet approachable, open and unrestrained, and focused on a connection with the general human experience.
My wife, Shonna, suggested offhand to use ‘No Gloves,’ which was a nickname from grad school, and we had a laugh about it, not taking the suggestion seriously at first. However, it stuck with me, and I ultimately realized it was a perfect fit.
The gloves being off implies a no-nonsense, fighter approach, whereas basing my business name on a former nickname is somewhat whimsical. The contradiction reminds me to balance my hard work and effort with a lighthearted appreciation for the ability to explore my creative nature through art. So, ‘No Gloves’ Art was born. I hope you enjoy.
